Is Caste System necessary?

Caste is not necessary, but some people have made it, as important as Air, water, food and shelter, the basic needs of life. I believe caste system, was created as convenience, based on profession, but not based on birth. But since the child of a potter quickly learnt the skill by observing, helping and practicing 24/7, he became the next potter in the village/town. And soon it became birth based.

Why we still care about caste in our day to day dealings? Simple- Compatibility. If I liked eating garlic from childhood, I would like to marry someone who also likes to eat garlic. Of course, there are always exceptions. If we grow in a community, than its more natural that a particular community has a common tastes. Which may not be true always though.

But don't we respect a doctor, a scientist or an artist, even though he/she is from a different caste? Unfortunately the respect to an artist is non existing. We don't have issue with respecting hindi actors, the caste system gets highlighted only when we talk about regional cinema. This unfortunately is more existing in Southern states of India.

If I go by the definition of caste as profession based then I am a barber in the morning when I shave, a pundit when or If I offer prayer/yoga, a sudra when I use my tools (computer/machine) at work, a vysya when I handle losses in stocks, and unfortunately, nobody when I slip into deep sleep

So, why fight over caste? Let us try our best to remove negative feelings about caste and respect all backgrounds and SAVE India from disintegration.
